What is a disciple?

In western culture, the word disciple is often synonymous with student or learner, as in a student/teacher relationship. The problem with this translation, particularly when thinking about the Bible, is that it doesn't fully convey what a true disciple/rabbi relationship was like. In Jewish tradition, a disciple literally wanted to be the rabbi. Wear the same clothes, go the same places, say the same blessings... Anything that the rabbi would do, the disciple should emulate.
